Assignment 3: Website Evalutation

I researched websites for a high school social studies classroom.

The first website I found, iCivics, is an interactive website for both teachers and students. As a high school social studies teacher, I think the website will be useful and relevant for my classroom because it includes games for students that follow the curriculum taught in class. It will also be a helpful website because it includes resources in the Spanish language and free guides. The website is up to date and in check with civic engagement occurring in the world today. The accuracy of the website concerns me a bit only because there is no specific author with an educational background in civics/ social studies. However, the information provided in the website seems to be accurate. The purpose of the website connects to my subject area as the website is meant to help engage students into civics beyond the classroom.

The second website I found, Big History Project, is an online social studies application that challenges upper level students to learn more about different parts of the world from different perspectives. The website is constantly updating and improving their information, keeping it relevant and current. The accuracy of the website is well displayed as they state that they were created by curriculum experts, teachers, students, and tech developers, and the website is also supported by Bill Gates. The purpose of this website accurately matches the needs of my classroom; the Big History Project provides accessible and up to date lessons for students with key learning goals and adaptation for engagement.
