Technology is an essential tool that is used in every classroom today. Because technology plays such a crucial role in the everyday tasks we complete as humans, it is important that students become more familiar with their skills and competencies for technology. Today, technology is used in the classroom during lectures, research, quizzes, and many other assignments. Both the teacher and student must be able to have technology literacy.

I think that the ISTE standard is a beneficial way to develop standards for educators and students. I believe it is important for educators to be well familiar with the technology they will be using to teach their students. The ITSE standard that is meaningful to me is the fourth standard for educators, promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. I think one of the most important topics an educator can teach students is digital citizenship and etiquette. One ITSE standard that I feel is out of my skill set is the second standard, design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. I am not too familiar with all of the software programs that will help me to develop models and assessments for students.

Today's youth were born with already having advanced technology in their life. Being exposed to technology since birth, I believe the term "digital native" accurately describes today's youth. Being a digital native means that you were born into the world of technology and therefore are more familiar with technology and its uses. Teachers, often described as digital immigrants, were not born into the world of technology like today's students; consequently, they may not be as familiar with some aspects of technology as students are. Older people may need to take more time on completing tasks involving technology because they are still not completely familiar with the tools. For example, one of my high school teachers would take more time than needed to set up a projector and often needed the help of a student to complete the task. This often hindered our class time and distracted our class from completing assignments. Today's youth, on the other hand, are quick with their tools because of their early exposure to the technology. In the future, I do not anticipate any major differences between my students and I regarding the capability of using technology. I believe I will be able to efficiently use my skills to develop my classroom.
